The Oath of Naturopathic Medicine brings great insight into the philosophy of holistic healing. The oath is collectively spoken by the graduating class during graduation ceremonies at the various American Naturopathic medical schools as a way to unite naturopathic physicians with the principles of their medicine.
As allopathic medical doctors take the oath of Hippocrates, naturopathic doctors speak this oath as a promise and dedication to the future communities in which they will serve. The presence of this oath in a medical setting provides the patient, doctor, and staff with a conscious expression of the integrity and foundation of this uniquely holistic medicine.
The artistic botanicals illustrated represent commonly prescribed naturopathic medicines and reflect the beauty and connection between man, woman, and the natural world. Herbs illustrated: Pteridium aquilinum (braken fern), Solanum dulcamara (bittersweet nightshade), Convallaria majalis (lily of the valley), Chimaphila umbellata (pipsissewa), Hyoscyamus niger (henbane), Tropaeolum majus (garden nasturtium), Phytolacca acinosa (indian poke), Urtica dioica (stinging nettle).
